WINTER GARDENS
Ricardo Yamamoto

A series about urban parks and our need for ecologic utopias

Urban parks and gardens are manufactured green areas that offer its communities much-needed respite from the anxieties of the daily human anthill.

Through the abstraction of black and white, in this series I explore these anthropogenic micro universes along with wider areas marked by human activity as a paradox between our longing to re-connect with nature and humanity’s destructive relationship with the natural environment at large.

Process

In this collection, shot in black & white film, at times I am employing a number of analog techniques in the pursuit of portraying these dynamic and living areas of nature. From soft and dreamy to rough and scrambled, each combination of experiments renders a unique and unpredictable image.
